Our Practice in Jasper

Dr. Todd Gunderson hails from northwestern Iowa (Lake Park, specifically). He earned his Bachelor of Science in Zoology from Iowa State University in 1997 and his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Indiana University School of Optometry in 2001. After practicing in an ophthalmology/optometry group in Marion, Illinois, for 5 years, Dr. Todd moved to Jasper and co-founded Gunderson Eyecare with his wife, Dr. Kim, in July 2006.

Dr. Todd practices full-scope optometry with a special focus on children’s eye care, dry eye management, ocular disease management, and innovative contact lens care. He is an active member of the Indiana Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. Additionally, he served as an examiner for the National Board of Examiners in Optometry, assessing students’ competency.

Dr. Todd is a past president of the Jasper Lions Club and a Boy Scout Assistant Scout Master. He enjoys being active in community events, especially the Jasper Band Parents.

When he’s not practicing optometry, Todd enjoys outdoor activities with his 3 sons, Quinn, Cole, and Graham.

Dr. Kim (Reckelhoff) Gunderson earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Indiana University in 1997 and her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Indiana University School of Optometry in 2001. She practiced at a multi-specialty optometry/ophthalmology clinic in Southern Illinois for 5 years. In 2006, she moved to her hometown of Jasper with her husband, Dr. Todd, where they opened Gunderson Eyecare.

Dr. Kim has served as an examiner for the National Board of Examiners of Optometry, which grades the competence of optometrists who wish to become certified. As she says, “It is both a privilege and a joy to serve the community, friends, and neighbors where I was raised.”

Dr. Kim currently serves on the Dubois County Community Foundation Board of Directors, is the Jasper Wildcat Band Parent President and a member of the Jasper Lions Club. She is a past president of Ireland Elementary PTO, and was a board member of the Jasper Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

Outside the office, Todd and Kim love to travel and support their boys in their activities (they are active band parent supporters).

Mary has been with Gunderson Eyecare since 2007. She specializes in helping patients with insurance accounts, using her knowledge and experience to help you get the most out of your vision benefits.

Although Mary’s job title is Operations Manager and Chief Insurance Advocate, don’t be surprised to see her jumping in any area of the office. Mary is very capable and trained to fulfill any role in the office.

Mary and her husband, Jeff, live in Ferdinand. They have 2 grown daughters, Samantha (husband Nick) and Jordan (husband Seth), and lovely grandchildren. When not in the office, Mary loves spending time with her grandchildren, cooking, reading, crafting, and spending time with friends.

Sandy joined Gunderson Eyecare in 2011 with an associate’s degree in optometric technology from Indiana University and years of eye care experience. She has extensive knowledge about all things frames and lenses, and looks forward to helping patients choose eyewear that provides optimal style and vision.

Sandy lives with her husband, Andy, in Huntingburg. They have 3 children and 3 grandchildren. Sandy enjoys putting together puzzles, watching movies, traveling, and spending time with her family.

Angie joined Gunderson Eyecare in 2012. She brings a unique flair to our eyewear selection with her sense of style and fashion. She’s a go-to for the latest trends and colors, always ready to share her opinions or offer a friendly smile. Angie tries most styles and lines herself to evaluate their quality and style before recommending them to you!

Angie enjoys working with the doctors and staff at Gunderson Eyecare. She would love for you to stop by and let her show you our frame selection. She also enjoys teaching new contact lens wearers how to handle their contacts.

Angie is a lifelong resident of Jasper and Ireland. She and her husband, David, have 2 grown children, Chase (and wife, Kathryn) and Sagan (and her husband Mick). She previously worked for 23 years in OB/GYN.

Blakney is probably the first person you’ll meet when you walk into the office. She greets you and collects the information needed to start your appointment. With her degree in administrative office technology, Blakney has the skills to maintain accurate records and act as a liaison with insurance companies for patients.

Blakney lives with her husband, Jacob, in Celestine. Together, they love volunteering in the community and spending lots of time with family and friends. They enjoy making memories with their first child, welcomed in 2022. Blakney enjoys taking long walks, cooking & gardening.

Hailey joined Gunderson Eyecare in 2020. Growing up in the eye care industry, her knowledge and experience have allowed her to aid in vision testing and ocular health assessments.

Hailey stays involved with the community by helping with girls’ softball program and supporting other athletic teams. You can find her golfing with her boyfriend, Nolan, or spending time outdoors with her 2 dogs, Beau and Sadie.

Trenton is a natural fit for Gunderson Eyecare. His commitment to continually expanding his skills and attention to detail make him an excellent clinical team member. He assists our doctors with preliminary and additional testing, helping us achieve accurate ocular health assessments.

Trent currently lives in Winslow. He loves spending time with family, friends, and his dogs, Ozzy and Roxi. He enjoys watching movies, frequent Tennessee trips, and listening to music.

Katie is known for providing individual attention to help patients select their new eyewear.

Katie and her husband, Isaac, have lived in Jasper for over 10 years. They enjoy traveling, going to concerts, and watching movies with their pets, Dottie, Judge, and Hoosier.

Max is Gunderson Eyecare’s optometric technician. He grew up in Jasper and attended Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in health sciences.

In his free time, he enjoys playing golf and being outdoors. He enjoys spending time with family, friends, and his 2 dogs, Axel and Rueger.

Joining the practice in 2024 with an extensive healthcare background, Jes may be the first person you see when visiting the office and is often the voice you hear on the phone. She welcomes you to the office and assists with any questions, prioritizing each patient’s unique needs.

Jes is a huge animal lover and enjoys educating herself about different breeds and species of animals. She loves spending time with her daughters and supporting them in band and the performing arts. She has 3 dogs and 2 cats.

Doreyda’s experience in customer service and commitment to excellence fit perfectly within the Gunderson Eyecare team. She makes patients feel welcome and comfortable while performing vision testing for each patient.

Being fluent in both English and Spanish, Doreyda helps us better serve our patients and community.

Doreyda lives in Jasper and enjoys hanging out with family and going to church. She loves music, movies, board games, and puzzles.
